Family First!

Rehema isn’t just a children’s home, it’s a family. We laugh together, argue a lot, and celebrate each other’s wins. The sense of belonging is what makes Rehema feel like home.

Shared Bonds

Children at Rehema Home are usually grouped together by age and gender.  Each group will share a bedroom, sit at the same table for meals, and often get to do the same activities.  For example, if there is an opportunity for an outing to the mall or to go camping, the whole group you’re a part of will participate.  The bonds that grow are special, and the people you are grouped with often become your closest friends.

Two Homes, One Family

Rehema has two locations; one in Bukura in the rural parts of western Kenya, and another in Nairobi. The two locations couldn’t be more different; but they are all part of the same family.

40+ Staff

More than forty staff members help with tasks around the home like cooking, cleaning and caring for the kids. They are the backbone of Rehema, keeping everything running smoothly.  There are groups of staff that work during the day and a smaller group that works overnights to help with the hungry babies or other middle-of-the-night wake ups.

More boys than girls

As is true for many children’s homes in Kenya, Rehema Home has always had more boys than girls under its care. Statistically, there are no records to show that more boys are being abandoned compared to girls.

The Mystery of Missing shoes

At Rehema Home, shoes have a mysterious life of their own. Maybe the dog chewed on it, it’s hidden under a pile of sand in the sandbox, or it is just so far back on the shoe rack that they can’t find it.  Our kids have routines that certainly prioritize taking care of their personal items.  But still, somehow shoes just go missing.

Sibling Math

Ask any kid at Rehema Home how many siblings they have and the answer will probably be a “lot”. It’s less about the numbers and more about belonging.
